Order a Certificate of a Pardon

Pardons (sometimes called a "Gold Seal")

The governor issues and signs pardons, and our office attests to the governor's signature by affixing the signature of the secretary of state. The secretary of state maintains records on "Gold Seal" pardons issued by the governor. First offender pardons (sometimes called "Automatic First Offender" pardons) are handled by the probation and parole offices in the judicial district in which the offense occurred. For information on automatic first offender pardons, please call the appropriate probation and parole office.

To order certified copies of pardons, please send your request to the Secretary of State Commissions Division at P. O. Box 94125, Baton Rouge, LA 70804 or you may also order by calling 225.922.0330. The fee is $20 for each certificate. We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover credit cards. For credit card orders taken by telephone or email, an additional fee of $5.00 is required, per state law.
